Arrivals and overnight stays in accommodation facilities increased in 2011

In December last year, arrivals registered in accommodation establishments cumulated 470,900, higher by 21.4% compared to December 2010, out of which the arrivals of Romanian tourists accounted for 81.5%, while foreign tourists represented 18.5% in the total number of arrivals.

Arrivals in hotels accounted for 74% in the total number of arrivals in the accommodation facilities, higher by 21.8% compared to December 2010.

Overnight stays in accommodation facilities in December 2011 registered 1,034,000, higher by 16.1% compared to December 2010, out of which overnight stays of Romanian tourists represented 83.3%, while foreign tourists 16.7%.

The net occupancy of bed places was 19.7% for the total number of accommodation facilities, higher by 1.1% compared to December 2010. Higher indicators of occupancy were registered by hotels – 22.9% and hostels – 15.9%.

Foreign tourists’ arrivals in Romania, registered at border crossing points, were of 542,000, higher by 1.9% compared to December 2010.  Most foreign visitors arrived from European countries, 95.4%, out of which 58.8% of the total arrivals of foreign visitors were from European Union member states.

Among EU member states, most arrivals were registered from Hungary – 37.9%, Bulgaria – 20%, Italy – 8.2%, Germany – 7.9%, Austria – 5.1% and Poland- 3.8%.

Railway transport registered the highest increase in December, compared to the same month last year by 7.5%.

Departures of Romanian visitors’ abroad, registered at border crossing points were of 735,900 in December, lower by 2.3% compared to December 2010. Road transport was mostly used by Romanian visitors leaving abroad, accounting for 74.6% in the total number of departures.

Arrivals in accommodation units in 2011 reached  7,002,400, higher by 16% compared to 2010, out of which Romanian tourists’ arrivals in accommodation units accounted for 78.4% in the total number of arrivals, while foreign tourists represented 21.6%.
Arrivals in hotels account for 76.7% in the total number of arrivals in accommodation facilities in 2011, higher by 16.8%.

Overnight stays in accommodation facilities in 2011 cumulated 17,914,100 , higher by 12.2% compared to 2010, out of which overnight stays of Romanian tourists’ represented 82.9% in the total number of overnight stays, while foreign tourists represented 17.1%.

The net occupancy of bed places in 2011 was 26.4% on the total of accommodation establishments, higher by 1.1% compared to 2010. Higher occupancy of bed places in 2011 was registered by hotels, 31.6%.

Arrivals of foreign tourists in Romania, registered at border were in 2011 of 7,611,100, increasing by 1.5% compared to 2010. Most foreign visitors arrived from countries in Europe – 94.3%. From EU countries, 57.7% represented foreign tourists’ arrivals in Romania. Most arrivals from EU countries were from Hungary – 35.2%, Bulgaria – 18.2%, Germany – 8.7%, Italy – 8% and Poland – 5.7%.

Air transport registered in 2011 compared to 2010, the highest increase, by 24.1%.

Romanian tourists’ departures abroad, registered at border crossing points were of 10,936,200, higher by 0.3% compared to 2010. Road transport means were mostly used by Romanian visitors leaving abroad, representing 72.4% in the total number of departures.
